Issam Awad Clinical Activities

Issam Awad is a leading surgeon with extensive clinical experience for more than two decades, at the United States’s most prestigious institutions. He led the cerebrovascular surgery teams at the Cleveland Clinic and Yale, and the world famous epilepsy surgery team at the Cleveland Clinic. He was instrumental in developing neurosurgical critical care units, multidisicplinary neurovascular teams and radiosurgery programs at the Cleveland Clinic, Yale and Colorado, before relocating to Evanston Northwestern Healthcare (ENH) in 2003. At ENH, he has established nationally recognized programs in neurovascular surgery and neurosurgical critical care, and Illinois most advanced stereotactic radiosurgery program.

Dr Awad’s clinical practice includes the full range of general neurosurgery, with an international referral practice in cerebrovascular malformations, neurovascular surgery and radiosurgery. He leads the ENH hemorrhagic stroke team, and the neurosurgical critical care and neurotrauma services. Dr Issam Awad has been recognized among America’s Best Doctors, and Who’s Who in the health Professions.

Issam Awad Academic Activities

Professor Issam Awad is recognized as an innovative and productive scholar in American Neurosurgery. He has held tenured professorships at leading Universities, most recently at Northwestern University Feinberg’s School of Medicine, where he is current vice Chair of the Departmnent of Neurological Surgery. He has educated scores of neurosurgeon trainees who are now leading clinical and academic practices in various U.S. centers including Pittsburgh, New Haven, Saint Louis, and Tampa, and in several countries including France, Chile, Brazil, South Africa, China, Japan and Egypt. He holds prominent editorial responsibilities, and has authored leading textbooks and scientific papers related to clinical innovations, surgical outcomes and research.

Dr Awad has been elected to the most distinguished professional societies, and he has held leadership positions of professional and learned societies in the United States and the world. His research receives funding from the National Institutes of Health.
